Welcome back to another action packed term of physical education and sport here at Assumption.
PSSA Cross Country
It was a pleasure to watch our students test themselves on the big stage against other local schools in the B Division of the Peel PSSA Cross Country on Wednesday, 30 July 2025.
In perfect weather conditions our team ran their hearts out and were such fine ambassadors for our school. Based on the total school points, Assumption finished third place overall.
Congratulations to the following students on individual personal best efforts resulting in either trophies or ribbons:
Trophies:
- Isla T – Year Six Girls 1st Place (Record time)
- Hayden S – Year Six Boys 3rd Place (faster than existing record)
- Tahlia D – Year Four Girls 3rd Place
Ribbons:
- Mark W (5)
- Macie R (7)
- Mateo G (9)
- River S (9)
A special mention to our Year Six Boys team who ALL finished in the top 14 overall – Mark (5) also breaking the existing record time, River (9), Brayth (11) and Xavier (14). What a performance!
It was heartwarming to have Isla recognised by the Convenor in the official presentation for her efforts in encouraging girls from others schools during her race that she lapped on her way to powering to a record time. “That is the ‘Assumption’ way and we love it!” said Mrs Denneman.
Thank Xavier P, Jourdain S, Ethan C and Demi P who all stepped in at short notice to cover students who were either absent or injured for the event.
Their efforts earned us a fantastic third place overall on total school points.
“We are incredibly proud of our students who represented Assumption with determination and heart at the Peel PSSA Cross Country Carnival,” said Ms Swann. “Our team gave their all under perfect weather conditions, showing outstanding sportsmanship and encouraging one another.”
Basketball WA Slam Competition
Following trials in Week One we have selected a girls and boys basketball squad in preparation for the Year Five / Six Basketball WA Schools Slam Competition.
The squads will train in preparation for the competition at MARC in Week Five.
Final teams will be announced following training over the next week or two.
Thank you to all that trialled – the standard was extremely high and we are excited to see if we can progress beyond local level in this Statewide Competition.
Athletics WA Coaching Clinics
It was fabulous to have the expertise of Shane from Athletics WA to lead us in some skill clinics here at Assumption this week.
Shane took each of Years Three – Six though some skills and drills with a focus on Jumps (Year Five / Six – Triple Jump and Long Jump, Year Three / Four Long Jump).
We look forward to continuing to practice over the next few weeks in Physical Education to build our stamina and skills in this area ready for our carnivals.
Physical Education
This year in Physical Education lessons we will also focus on skill development in traditional athletics throwing events (discus / shot put) with modified equipment.
This allows children the opportunity to consider transitioning to Little Athletics within the Community despite these events not featuring in the school pathway program in Western Australian primary schools.
ACPS Athletics Carnivals
We are excitedly preparing in Physical Education lessons for our ACPS Athletic Carnivals this term. The Field Event Competitions for Years Three – Six will be held on Monday 25 August (Week Six). Track Events for PP – Year Six will be held on Friday 5 September (Week Seven).
These events will be used as qualification for the Peel PSSA Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 17 September (Week Nine) for all Year Three – Six students.
Further details will follow regarding the event timings and progressions.
We hope parents can pop these dates in their calendar and join us for these fabulous community days.
As always we rely on our trusted group of parent helpers to be able to run an efficient and fun filled day.
If you are able to assist as an event helper on either day please email kellie.denneman@cewa.edu.au and advise which day(s) suit.
No particular skill level is required! All help in greatly appreciated.
